If bugs had personalities

If bugs had personalities

─ ⊹ ⊱ 𖦹 ⊰ ⊹ ─

Rise and shine, fireflies ‧˚꒰🦗⋆! I kinda love bugs (except cockroaches, I can't stand those things; not only are they ugly, but they always decide to fly towards you! What's wrong with them?!  and mosquitoes are super annoying, making sounds in my ears and also taking my blood out?!)

Anyways, the other bugs are cute and I love them. In this entry I'm going to explore the idea that if bugs were persons, what would their personalities be? Or like in Hogwarts's houses, or Camp-halfblood's cabins, what insect would you be depending on your personality?

I'm going to put tests at the end (and when I finish it I will put my own test) of which bug are you.

Insects and bugs carry a rich symbolic and cultural meaning across folklore, art, and spiritual traditions, so I researched information about them to use it for this!

Butterflies are flying insects belonging to the order of Lepidoptera (which also includes moths)

In Ancient Greece, the word psyche meant both "butterfly" and "soul".

In Mexico (during the Day of the Dead) and in Native American traditions, they are associated with the visit of souls or good omens.

And in various cultures, they are believed to represent the spirits of loved ones, transformation, hope, renewal, and the journey of the soul or spiritual rebirth.

As I see it, butterflies would be the popular girls because they are pretty and a lot of people's favorites, but I don't think they are mean. They  have beautiful rooms with purple curtains, and probably like magical and supernatural shows and movies. They would either like and accept or be super afraid of changes and new experiences. They dress super cute, and have a big sense of fashion. And they also like to travel and find new pretty places.

Dragonflies are predatory insects that control pests.

In the Japanese culture, they are a symbol of strength, courage, success and bravery (historically associated with samurai) and represent summer, autumn, and the return of ancestors at the Obon festival.
In indigenous traditions of North America, they are considered guardians of water, symbols of healing, purity, and spiritual messengers.
And in various traditions it possesses a deep symbolic meaning of transformation, change and adaptability; it is believed that they bring prosperity, and it is popularly said that if a dragonfly lands on you, it is a harbinger of good luck or good news.

I think dragonflies would be the quiet pretty friends that keep a diary and are always listening to music in their wired headphones. They are very spiritual, kind, mysterious, and loyal, but they don't let people step over them and they show their value when needed. People tend to naturally trust them even if they don't know much about them. Sometimes they feel misunderstood.

They like to wander in the park and wonder about things in life, themselves, and their own purpose. They believe that the future ahead is bright and have faith in it.

Ladybugs are small beetles that act as natural predators of pests.

In England and other European countries, they were associated with the Virgin Mary (Ladybird / "Our Lady’s Beetle"), as according to a legend, they saved the crops of farmers who had prayed for her help, and in France they are called poulette à Dieu ("chicken of God").

In Asia, they are signs of true love.

And in various cultures or places, it is believed that if a ladybug sits on a person, it brings good luck. Many traditions say that the number of points on their shells indicates the years of good fortune or the months of prosperity to come.

But you need to be careful not to confuse them with Asian lady beatles. They look super similar but one (the ladybugs) helps with pest control, and the other ones are pests that can get into homes and they can also bite.
Ladybugs would be the smart girls, natural leaders as they know what they want and how to help people.
They have a strong personality, and they definitely don't let themselves be taken advantage of. A lot of people aspire to be like them or even idealize them.

Bees are one of the best insect pollinators

In Ancient Egypt they symbolized the kingship, cosmic order, and power of the Pharaoh. They were believed to have been born from the tears of the sun god, Ra.

In Ancient Greece they represented the soul, wisdom, and prophecy.

In Celtic traditions they were seen as spiritual guides and messengers between the physical and the spiritual world; with fermented honey they made the mead (drink of immortality).

And in various cultures they represent teamwork, perseverance, female power (by the queen-led hive), and the urgency of environmental conservation.

Bees would be the girls' girls; they would always be there to help. They work hard for things and know their objectives in life. They are organized and clean. They love spring, snacks and music. Sometimes, they are a little hard on themselves.

Praying Mantis are carnivorous predators, masters of camouflage, and have a unique anatomy.

Its name comes from the Greek word mantis, meaning "prophet" or "seer". His lofty stance was believed to indicate connection with the divine world or ability to predict the future.

In Ancient Egypt they were considered a sacred creature. In funerary texts, they were credited with the role of spiritual guide to accompany souls in the netherworld, as well as protecting crops by hunting down pests.

And in various cultures they represent patience, introspection, and quietness.

I think Mantis would be the cool girls that seem mean but can be super sweet if you get to know them. They are always bothered by men, and kinda hate them. They love parties and sleepovers. They will defend you no matter what. Sometimes they can be a little too honest or harsh. They shop in second-hand stores and their make-up always eats.

Fireflies (also called light bugs or candlesticks) are night beetles that produce cold, flickering light through a chemical reaction in their bodies.

In Japan, they symbolize the passion of love, the transience of life, and the souls of fallen warriors. In classical literature and poetry, they evoke summer nostalgia.

In Victorian times, seeing fireflies inside a house was taken as a bad omen or death warning, while in general folklore they were compared to fairy lights.

In Ancient China they were associated with diligence in the study (based on old tales told of poor students who gathered them in transparent bags to read at night)

And in general, they represent guidance through the darkness, inner strength, and the phrase "let your true self shine".

I think fireflies would be the shy (with others) but funny friends. They can be soft, but they also have a strong unique personality. They are free and magical souls that enjoy being outside, listening to music, reading, and breezy late summer nights. They are good advisers and ambivert beings (depends on the people around them).

Spiders are carnivorous predators.

In Greek mythology, Arachne was such a skilled weaver that she defied Athena and was transformed into the first spider, giving rise to the term arachnid.

In Hinduism, the Indra network represents the interconnectedness of the entire universe, but the motionless spider at its center also symbolizes the illusion trap (Maya) of the material world.

In modern popular culture, they are associated with mystery, fear or witchcraft.

Spiders would be the quiet mysterious girls that always dress in cool black outfits with 2000's vibes. People sometimes seem intimidated by them and their character, but they are not always rude (probably only if you piss them). They like adventures and going out with friends, but they are still independent.

A caterpillar is the larval stage of insects in the order Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths)

While small insects rarely occupy the center, some traditions see them as symbols of humility. In Navajo culture, the tobacco ant worm (a caterpillar) has a mythological role, helping to ward off water monsters, and is in healing stories related to tobacco medicine.

In some classical and biblical texts, caterpillars are seen as agents of judgment, consumption, or decay.

From most modern and ancient viewpoints, the caterpillar represents the first soil-based phase of a major change in life. It symbolizes patience, preparation, and confidence in a slow process before a breakthrough, being the ultimate symbol of metamorphosis and hidden potential before "flying".

Caterpillars would be the sweet cute and creative girls. They like designing and making clothes (they are fashion divas), drawing, writing, and crocheting. They love to gift things for people to have as significant pieces of them forever. They love getting dinner or a cafe with their friends.
